This next week in the Lenten journey moves us towards the story of the resurrection of Lazarus in John 11:1-45 (the Lectionary text proposed for this coming Sunday, the 5th in Lent). I’m struck in that story by the sounds, in particular the voice of Jesus ringing out in the mourning around the tomb in verse 43, calling Lazarus to come forth into the light and life of day.  In my mind it’s like that call of Jesus in the story of Lazarus is 25 times louder than anything else said.

In thinking about that I found myself coming back to sound, to the voice, and to music.  After a week of listening practicing, intended to help us find ways to listen for, and hear the voice of God, my intent this week is to offer music (undoubtedly things I like as I’m making the choices) that in listening to the creation of another, their artistic reflection on their search for God, it might impact, enrich, and color our own.  Each day I’ll post a song, along with links to the lyrics, from a youtube video embedded into the text.

Today’s song comes from the group Out of the Grey, entitled “He is not Silent”.  If you want to read the lyrics, [HERE] is a link to them.  It retells some of the exodus story, the wanderings in the desert laid against our own wanderings.  What do you think of, where do you go to, what do you hear as you listen to this song today?
