In the silence of the heart God speaks. If you face God in prayer and silence, God will speak to you. Then you will know that you are nothing. It is only when you realize your nothingness, your emptiness, that God can fill you with Himself. Souls of prayer are souls of great silence.

Colors of Silence

As you practice silence today do it intentionally.  Take a break from distractions and noise disruptions (at lease from the avoidable ones).  Sit.  Be still.  Attend to your breath.  Be mindful of your posture, the solid ground underneath you.  And then try to just be. Let thoughts come and go.  Don’t obsess about not thinking, but rather when a thought bursts onto the plate of your mind, name it, recognize it, then let it go, almost like putting left overs away for another meal.  If you need to set a timer, so that you’re not distracted by your anticipation or anxiety about either how much time you’ve done in silence, or how many more minutes you have to go.
