Thursday [silence]

Matthew 26:17–75, Mark 14:12-72, Luke 22:7-62, and John 13:1-38

The events of today seem to both begin and end in silence.  The silence of the new day starting, the day of Pesach (Passover) for the Jews – a reminder of their deliverance from slavery in ancient Egypt.  It ends with the silence of the garden, with Jesus being hauled away by Temple troops – and the disciples (in my imagination) left bewildered, befuddled and blown-away by his arrest silently stupefied in the garden of Gethsemane.

The meal celebration is punctuated by teachings and teachable moments, betrayal, a metaphorical meal and a ritual of cleaning to teach humility.  As you read through the stories, finish and sit in silence.  What are you left with?  What is the word that you hear from these texts?
